How do you use the Jewellery Quarter?

• I live in JQ

Do you have any comments about the temporary changes made last year?

While traffic is low they have worked, but with the number of cars increasing I’m not convinced that this solution will work as well. In the last few weeks I’ve seen so many cars ignoring the rules by driving the wrong way down a one way stretch, or driving on a cycle lane to go round a barrier. It also doesn’t seem to be deterring traffic but instead just means that some roads are now busier than they’re really suitable before.

Do you have any ideas for future improvements to the Jewellery Quarter?

I like the work on cycle lanes, but it only works if the cycle lanes are fully connected up around the city. It’s not much help when on some of the busy ring roads you have to come off the cycle lane and mix it with the traffic. So many cars are parking illegally and blocking the cycle lanes too, the enforcement needs reviewing to see if there’s more to do I think.

Which of the following would you like to see in the Jewellery Quarter?

• Less traffic

• Cycle parking

• More seating

Having worked at a business on Newhall Hill for three years I was shocked to come back to the office earlier this year and see all of the changes. I commute into JQ because my role relies on me attending meetings in other locations outside of the city centre. I also commute because it is more convenient for childcare purposes. Prior to the tram extension works on Broad Street, my commute to Newhall Hill was very simple and I encountered very little traffic. (A34 N onto Paradise Circus then onto the B4135 before entering Newhall Hill. The tram works have already contributed to a longer journey through the city via the Queens Way tunnel and onto St Pauls Square. The added complicated of having to travel down George Street before being able to go onto Newhall Hill is adding further length to my journey. The introduction of the bike lane, seems like a good idea, although on Newhall Hill you have switched the parking onto the other side of the road, creating a blind spot for premises on that side of the road. JQ was never excessively busy even during peak hours. I think these changes will increase journey time, pollution and increase the potential of fatal road traffic collisions.

Negative

I'm not sure you needed to make changes to JQ. I can't help but think by reducing traffic, you're driving potential customers away.

It is almost impossible to access Newhall Hill. The re-routing adds significantly to congestion and pollution

The closure of Charlotte Street has put an unjust burden on the residence of that road for little to no benefit, as Charlotte Street is already a one way street the diversion is long and increases traffic on other roads I can't see any reason why it should remain, please remove this road closure ASAP
