There is no need for a shared-use footway/ cycle track on Coventry Road between Tennyson Road and Heybarnes Circus; people will not use this and the community simply does not want this. This is also the case for a shared use footway/ cycle track along Bordesley Middleway. Creating two-way segregated cycle routes on Bolton Road & Byron Road through reallocation of road space will exacerbate the issue that there is already limited road space here, thus this is nonsensical. With regard to cycle contraflow lanes and a one-way traffic loop between Bordesley Middleway and Bradford Street, this will increase traffic, in an area where congestion is already an issue. Instead of forcing the proposed changes, which will only reduce road space and make traffic worse in these already congested areas, the council should use this funding to make improvements that would actually be beneficial and are years-long overdue, such as fixing potholes; tackling the issue of congestion in these areas, such as by increasing road space; resurfacing pavements and keeping the area and Small Heath park clean and litter-free.

Cycle lanes in small heath have not been thought about. It has been a waste of money and has not helped. Byron road since tje cycle lane has been introduced no more than 2 cyclists have been seen. Boulton road 1 cyclist if any has been seeen. Both roads have been narrowed to an extent - many times cars have had to reverse the whole road as cars can no longer go past esp with parked cars along the side. Roads were designed for cars. Introducing cycle lanes have caused a number of hazards on these roads for drivers whilst there are no cyclists in these lanes! Emergency services would also struggle to get past on these roads due to the roads now narrow - parked cars and oncoming traffic. No thought gone into the cycle lanes around small heath. There is a dual carraige way - why not create a lane there!!! Cycle lanes infact created extra pollution as many drivers going longer routes as a result of lanes narrow / no entry etc So project is failing! No more cycle lanes in small heath please! - there is probably less tjan 1% who have used the cycle lanes. Pointless.

The canal cycle paths have been a boon for getting around the city safely. The A38 blue cycle path is great. But, the recent addition of “pop-up” cycle lanes in places like the Jewellery Quarter, Selly Oak and others are fantastic. Although “light’ by cycle structure provision, they are a great incentive for people to cycle. I read that the hope is that these, and other such initiatives, will become permanent and be solidified in the future. So, please pass on my positive comments to whomsoever is in a position to make sure that these initiatives, and many more, will be continued and set in stone. Cycling, walking and public transport are the way forward in the city ! Most roads should have safe cycling provision as a matter of course. Why should I be endangered by speeding and careless traffic just because I ride a bicycle ? I have the right to cycle safely. These sorts of pop-up initiatives, and other provision, are exactly what is needed in order to get people on to their bikes. Only when people feel safe will they cycle, and allow their children to cycle.
