The restrictions don't make sense and the signage is insufficient. They force people to make decisions at the last possible moment and cause unnecessary congestion, which goes against the whole purpose of the scheme

Birmingham City Council continues its long-standing war on the motorist. I would like to know their vision for the future of our city, because if they are not careful they risk “killing the golden goose” ie any chance of businesses wanting to stay, let alone new ones wanting to move into the city. With Clean air zone charges looming for businesses to get their deliveries, the city centre segments idea with its associated congestion and disruption, and no cheap and reliable service on offer for the motorist for example a good park and rides service, maybe it will be a case of No cars, no businesses, no tourists Some lovely buildings, but if they stay empty what will Birmingham become? A nice place to go for a walk in the clean air will not pay the bills

Great plan for the city centre! Less cars, more room for people and businesses. Birmingham should be leading the way in removing cars from the city centre.

We are residents living in the Jewellery Quarter, just off the Queensway, and an Honorary Alderman of the City. As a cyclist, and the owner of battery driven cars, we support the move to better cycle car separation and reducing the carbon emissions in the city centre. But the closure of the vehicle entry points into the Quarter from the west side, with associated changes in road directions and closures has created more problems that they have solved. The traffic for residents, delivery and visitors to the shops and heritage sites in the quarter can be considerable - before we have better and usable public transport - post Covid. The traffic is now entering via a reduced number of points into areas that creates difficulties for cyclists and are downright dangerous in places. The change to a part one-way Frederick Street has every hour of the day vehicles driving the wrong way trying to get out of the Quarter at Sandpits but unable to do so. Also sending vehicles into the Quarter at Newhall Street means increased traffic in the busiest section for cyclists. Lastly, the cycle route created from half of Newhall Street sending them down to the Ring Road is the least likely route anyone would take, as it is a road to nowhere, anyone wishing to go to City Hospital by cycle would go up Dudley Road - as we do -via George Street. The non-local traffic driving up one-way streets in the Quarter is very scary at the best of times and this plan around this part of the City Centre has gone badly wrong and needs a major rethink.

The restriction of movement proposed and recently implemented between the City Centre Segments has been counterproductive in achieving the aims and objectives of the Birmingham Transport Plan as intended. It has created chaos in the city at a time when traffic is significantly reduced due to Covid-19 as people work from home.
