What things could be done to make it safer and easier to cycle here?

The proposal to create a dedicated cycle route from the A38/Bristol Road to Moseley centre is an excellent idea and I fully support this. By linking an area of high potential cycle use (Moseley) and the Rea Valley route through Cannon Hill Park to Bristol Road, it would help to improve use of the high quality A38 path, and help us to build a real network in this part of the city. The key to success, however, will be in the quality. This must be of equal standard to the A38 route - similar width, fully segregated from traffic, and with good priority at key junctions including Pershore Road and the roundabout at Russell Road. This should be quite simple to achieve along the main part of the route but it will be more challenging between the Rea Valley route and the entry to Moseley at the bottom of Park Hill. However it is crucial to maintain the quality here including reclaiming some road space from cars as necessary. The Park Hill/Chantry Road access to Moseley along these relatively quiet roads is the best option in my view, versus the very busy and cramped Salisbury Rd. But this should be accompanied by a re-design of the Chantry/Woodbridge/Alcester Road junction in Moseley centre to provide dedicated cycle and pedestrian crossings here. This should be factored into the future thinking about Moseley local centre improvements, which is the focus of another part of this consultation process. As a regular cyclist around this part of Birmingham, both for commuting and leisure, I would use this route on a near daily basis, and I am sure it would help to encourage many more people to cycle on a range of journeys including the city centre and to the university/hospital area in Edgbaston.

Love the idea of a link to moseley. I feel safe cycling with my whole family along the a38 blue route. I do not feel at all safe then uses the roads on bike to transfer across to moseley (a trip I regularly do...and too often do in a car when with family). A link would also be great for those travelling by bike along the rea valley. Route needs to be segregated, south cyclists prioritised at junctions. Car speeds on Salisbury road need to be addressed esp downhill. If work on a segregated lane was combined with traffic calmer, speed bumps, that could be beneficial. The alternative would be taking the cycle lane up park hill and chant road.

There are several issues that make cycling this route dangerous for cyclists: * visibility on the Salisbury/Russell roundabout is poor and cars approach it at very high speeds, particularly those travelling down Salisbury. * pinch points on the corner of Cannon Hill Park (travelling west) and on the Edgbaston/Pershore junction where 2 lanes merge to 1 approaching the bus stop (again travelling west). * cars travel at very high speeds in both directions on the stretch between Pershore and Bristol roads Segregated cycle lanes would hugely improve this section for cyclists but there must be additional measures put in place to reduce the overall traffic speeds.
